CBI arrests 06 accused including 05 Railway Officers (include two IRPS Officers) and a private person in a case related to bribery in Railway Departmental Examination; Recovers 650 grams gold and Rs 5 lakh cash (approx.) during searches

CBI has unearthed a bribery network involving two IRPS officers and others in the office of DRM, Vadodara, Western Railway on allegations of collection of huge bribe for favouring candidates in Limited Departmental Examination of Western Railway.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested 06 accused including Sr. Divisional Personnel Officer (IRPS: 2008) and Divisional Personnel Officer (IRPS: 2018 batch) both of Western Railway, Vadodara; Deputy Chief Commercial Manager, Church Gate, Western Railway, Mumbai; Deputy Station Superintendent; a Nursing Superintendent, Divisional Railway Hospital, Sabarmati (Ahmedabad) and a private person in a case related to allegations of collection of huge bribe for favouring candidates in Limited Railway Departmental Examination of Western Railway. Searches were conducted at residential and official premises of the accused persons at 11 locations including Vadodara, Gujarat which led to recovery a gold bar of 650 grams, Rs. 5 lakh cash (approx.), electronic gadgets and incriminating documents etc.

A case was registered on 18.02.2025 against three public servants of Railways including aforesaid Divisional Personnel Officer, Deputy Chief Commercial Manager and Deputy Station Supdt. Of Railways & private person on the allegations that accused officials in conspiracy with private person and unknown others were collecting money from the candidates appearing in Railway Departmental examination by promising them selection in an upcoming examination. It was also alleged that accused Divisional Personnel Officer of Western Railway, had directed accused Deputy Chief Commercial Manager of Western Railway, to compile a list of at least 10 candidates willing to pay bribe for selection in the said Examination. Allegedly accused Deputy Chief Commercial Manager of Western Railway in turn contacted Deputy Station Supdt of Vadodara; and the Private Person to contact such candidates and collect bribes from them. It was also alleged that Deputy Chief Commercial Manager of Western Railway had contacted a jeweller in Vadodara to purchase around 400 grams of gold in lieu of cash without generating any invoice. It was further alleged that Deputy Chief Commercial Manager of Western Railway went to Anand; met Private Person and collected cash from him.

During investigation, it is also revealed that one Nursing Supdt. in Western Railway was intercepted and 650 grams of gold was found with him which had been obtained by him from the jeweller after payment of around Rs.57 lakh (approx.) and the said gold was to be delivered to accused Sr. Divisional Personnel Officer (IRPS: 2018) of Western Railway, Vadodara.

All arrested accused persons will be produced today before the CBI Special Court No. 7, Bhadra, Ahmedabad.

Investigation is continuing.
